Rosell planning to reform club statutes

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona presidential candidate Sandro Rosell wants to reform the statutes of the club. The person in charge of the big reform would be Joan Manuel Trayter [picture], a professor of law at the university of Girona.

Trayter, a former vice-president of the Catalan sports tribunal and the son of the president of the management commission that was in charge of the club during the 2003 elections, has over the past years been critical about the functioning of the current board.

In an interview with Catalan sports weekly paper Gol, he suggested last month among other things that the role of the board at the end of a term should be changed to guarantee the neutrality of the election process and that there should be more involvement of the club member, transparency and control:

"The statutory organs that should control the activities of the board have been ignored and their members have moved from those organs to the board, neglecting that way their institutional role. The clearest example is that of mister Sala i Martín, the former president of the economic commission, that should control the club's finances, who is now a member of the board of directors."

  1. yeah he's right, that is weird. why would a current treasurer be at the same time a member of the board? in private companies that isnt allowed right? its supposed to be an independent position, something like that anyway. although of course barca is like a non-profit, i dont know what the rules are as far as that goes.

  2. well, the treasurer of barcelona is always part of the board, anonymous. but besides the board there's an economic commission that should control the finances of the club.

sala i martín was president of that commission from 2006 to 2009 before he joined the board. when vice-president franquesa left in november of last year, there was a board reshuffle and sala i martín became treasurer (replacing joan boix).

but so the basic question is: can someone who is in charge of controlling the board, become from one day to another part of that same board?
