Madrid sports paper As claims that presidential candidates Sandro Rosell, Agustí Benedito and Jaume Guixà are unhappy with the renewal policy of the current board of Barcelona president Joan Laporta over the last year.
The non-board candidates would agree that it would have been better to postpone the renewals and to give the new board more freedom in the composition of the squad, even more so because there weren't important offers for any of the renewed players, none of them had the wish to leave the club and key players like Iniesta and Messi already had long-term contracts.
The candidates reportedly think Laporta has been renewing the contracts of a lot of players to continue to be able to claim the team's successes in the future. In 2009, Barcelona has extended the contracts of players like Touré, Valdés, Pedro, Messi, Puyol, Abidal, Iniesta and Márquez.

The candidates do have a point here. :p
ReplyDeleteFact, Omar. On the other hand this is probably a subject weren't you can't do anything good.
ReplyDeleteBecause if you postpone everything, they could say that you took the easy way out and left all the work for the next president (and with a year less on the contracts, negotiations become harder). So, guess this is a no-win situation although Laporta might have been a little over-enthusiastic.
Regardless of how Reliable AS claims are (gathering all candidates and asking their opinion), Aside of Márquez case-who may not be a convincing long term option for all candidates- all the other cases were necessary renewals.
ReplyDelete- Valdes and Puyol were in their last year. Yaya contract needed to be protected as well after his agent started his tour across all the clubs in Europe seeking a deal.
- Pedro, Iniesta and abidal contracts were too humble and unsecure compared to their squad importance.
- Messi renewal was the result of Ibra signing. It was unavoidable (besides increasing his minimum release fee).
And I don’t think a candidate who knows one thing or two about elections will complain because we renewed the contracts of Puyol, Iniesta and Messi to say the least.
i agree with ramzi. i also dont see it as saddling the next board with unwanted contracts, those renewals were necessary. am not surpised though, seems something you'd hear from non-board candidates..but honestly, seeing we're just halfway thru the season i kind of wonder how the affected players would feel hearing stuff like that from important fcb personalities.
ReplyDeletewether laporta renewed contracts or not , he can claim any success in the future
ReplyDeleteno one can deny that the next president will run the best barca in the history of the club , not only a scceeding team
