Perrin: "Godall doesn't want me in his candidacy"

Asked about the upcoming presidential elections, Barcelona institutional vice-president Albert Perrín has admitted in an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Cope that it will be almost impossible to form one united board candidacy because of a division in the board of directors:

"Godall doesn't want me in his candidacy. There's no click anymore, although there was before and certainly from my side. I have always been close to Jaume Ferrer and Godall is sectarian, he only wants to deal with certain people and we don't think that's logical.

There were ten people who defended the president until the very end after the vote of no confidence and it cannot be that this unity has now been broken. What about Laporta? I've spoken to him lately and we were sincere.

Will things be difficult between the board members from now on? It won't be easy but we're all grown-up people and we will try to deal with things as good as possible. We're certainly not planning to leave the board. If you're inside, you're in charge and you know how things are functioning. While if you're out, you don't know anything."

  2. Just do the elections today. The later it is, the more damage it will cause.

I think it was perfect to do it this month. No CL games to get distracted, and will give enough time for the new board to plan safely for next season, even if they will take the responsibility starting from the end of this season.

The team performance will be effected. Cant say how far it will effect our results this season or our preparations for next season, but It will no doubt complicate lot of things. Especially that we may need some important squad modifications for next season.

  3. Ramzi, it can't be done this month, the elections will be held between 15 March and 15 June.

  4. Like cris809 says, Ramzi, it has to be between 15 March and 15 June.

Coincidentally, in the same interview Perrin was asked about the issue and he said that a possible impact on the squad is an invention by candidates that they use to fix (or to complain about) the date of the elections because the players don't care about it.

Which for one doesn't talk about a possible impact on next season's squad.

I think every date has its advantages and disadvantges. Uf they would have done it this month for example (if that would be possible), it would of course have meant that the campaign would have started a lot earlier so then you would have had a possible effect on the World Cup for Clubs because the campaign would around that time have entered its final stage.

About the date of the elections one can read this introductory post:
When will the elections be held?

As well as this one from last week:
Elections will be held in April or May

  6. Yes, I know it’s not possible to do it now; it was more a wishful thinking.

It’s normal for Perrin to say that it will leave no impact on the Squad performance. That’s his job. I even think all the candidates have to claim the same thing or else they will be squeezed in the corner to keep their voices low (so they don’t damage). Something they don’t want to. But the players are human at the end of the day, they hear, read, and feel. Especially when some criticize contracts renewal (sending a sign of what may happen if), and others demand strengthening a weak position or criticizing a weak shopping decision made last summer for example. We are talking about people who may end up being the new employers to the players and staff.
Regarding the Advantages and disadvantages of timings, even now that it’s taking place in the last segment of the season, its impact started last summer anyway. Besides, doing it on January will not tie the present board hands in building up the team for the season (the summer before the elections), and give enough time for the following board to prepare for the next season (the following summer). If you do the election in May for example, you may waste lot of hunts already, or at least the transfer targets will be more expensive by then through stretching the bidding war. Some Candidates like Sandro for example have enough contacts to approach the transfer market directly after being elected, others will need time. And we need to see all the candidates in such case regardless of their chances to win.
It’s better to reach the months between March and June with everything settled than getting there while the election craziness is at its peak. That’s the period where the titles will be won or lost. Crises there will be irreversible.
Besides, against all odds, I think the season outcome will leave an unfair impact on the election results. Many people forget that Barcelona Community is characterized by a short memory and impulsive decisions.
